Overview

I rebuilt the frontend of merkur-sports.de, one of Germany’s top online gaming platforms, serving millions of users across the continent. This was a ground-up rewrite using modern technologies and best practices.

Role & Responsibilities

As the frontend lead for this project, I:

  • Component Library Architecture: Architected and built a reusable component library from scratch using React, TypeScript, Redux, and Storybook
  • Test-Driven Development: Implemented TDD practices using Jest to ensure code quality and reliability
  • Technical Leadership: Led the frontend rebuild, making key architectural decisions and establishing development patterns
  • Cross-team Collaboration: Worked closely with backend engineers, designers, and product managers throughout the rebuild process
  • Documentation: Created comprehensive documentation using Storybook for all components

Technical Stack

  • React with TypeScript for type-safe component development
  • Redux for state management
  • Storybook for component documentation and development
  • Jest for unit and integration testing
  • TDD (Test-Driven Development) practices

Impact

Successfully delivered a modern, scalable platform that serves millions of users across Germany and Europe. The reusable component library significantly accelerated development velocity for future features and improved code consistency across the application.
